The Royal Society's report on "Disability technology: How data and digital assistive technologies can support independent, fulfilled lives" is now public and Oliver King-Smith, CEO of smartR AI, was a participant in the process!
In 2023 Oliver was invited to participate in a crucial discussion hosted by the Royal Society on the power of data and digital assistive technologies (DigAT) to support independent and fulfilled lives for individuals with disabilities. He recently went to London for the Royal Society's event where they unveiled the full report.
As part of the Royal Society's "Creating Connections" event series, Oliver contributed to a roundtable in Edinburgh focused on the inclusive design of DigAT. This insightful gathering, chaired by Professor Jacques Fleuriot, brought together industry leaders, academics, and civil society representatives to explore both the potential and the challenges of this rapidly evolving field.
The roundtable delved into critical topics, including:
- Barriers to industry development: Identifying and addressing obstacles hindering the progress of DigAT innovation.
- Co-design methodologies: Exploring effective strategies for collaboratively designing technologies with the end-users.
- Ethical challenges: Navigating the complex ethical considerations inherent in the development and deployment of DigAT.
Oliver's participation underscores smartR AI's commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence for social good. We are dedicated to contributing to the development of innovative and inclusive technologies that empower individuals and improve lives.
This involvement reflects our deep understanding of the vital role DigAT plays in fostering independence and well-being. We are committed to continuing to collaborate with leading organizations like the Royal Society to advance the field and create a more accessible and equitable future for all.
